Transportation

Pilsen region is situated at a strategically important location in the middle of the crossroads between Eastern and Western Europe. Road transport is the most important means of transportation in the region.

Plzeňský kraj is situated at a strategically important location in the middle of the crossroads between Eastern and Western Europe. Road transport is the most important means of transportation in the region. The transportation network in the region is mostly radially organised and the town of Plzeň is an important transport junction.

Use European Highway: Praha (Prague) – Plzeň – Rozvadov – Federal Republic of Germany.

Air Transport and Airports

The largest airport in the Czech Republic is located in Praha-Ruzyně (Prague-Ruzyně). Smaller international airports are also in operation in several other towns. Most flights from the Czech airports are international, because it is preferable to use land transportation routes for domestic traffic.

Use the nearest international airport in Praha – Ruzyně.

Use Train Transportation

The Czech Republic, situated right in the middle of Europe, forms a transport junction intersected by many international routes (EuroCity, InterCity, SuperCity). Railway is also suitable for travelling within the Czech Republic, which is a country with one of the densest railway networks.

Use the main railway line Praha - Cheb – Norimberk (Nuremberg), Plzeň – Furth im Wald.

Travelling by bus

Large Czech cities (e.g. Praha, Brno, Ostrava) are connected to European metropolises by international bus lines. Even domestic long-distance transport is provided in modern Neoplans, which ensure sufficient comfort for the passengers.

Public transportation

All large towns in the Czech Republic have their own public transportation companies, which provide městská hromadná doprava (MHD) - municipal public transportation. At marked stops, you will find detailed timetables of those lines that stop at that particular stop. Part of the timetable is also the duration of the journey between particular stations.

Taxi

You can stop a taxi by waving your hand or ordering it by phone, just like anywhere else in the world. Phone numbers for taxi companies in any given town can be found at the airport, railway stations and in hotels. A taxi must be fitted with a lit sign reading TAXI on the roof of the car, there must be a licence number, company name and price list on the front doors.
