REGION 2012

REGION 2012

For the third year, the Specialized Secondary School of Applied Art and Design in Pilsen took over a role of an organizer to examine expert knowledge of students of education subject in tourism, namely from three regions of the Czech Republic.

Originally a one-day competition REGION 2012 was newly held as a two-day this year. The reason was also a large number of registered three-member teams – a total of 12 schools from 7. Students from Specialized Secondary Schools and Vocational Schools from Pilsen, Ústí nad Labem, Příbram, Sušice a Poděbrady were among participants who met the official start of the competition on Thursday. After the presentation of all competition teams, the first part of the competition was held – a knowledge test in the field of tourism geography, history, and culture and tourism services. Sightseeing of Pilsen was provided for students after the accommodation and Pilsen brewery was also not forgotten. Next day participants enthusiastically embarked to the second part of the competition – product processing and its subsequent presentation. A three-day school trip for 40 students in Domažlice and Černý les with a day trip to Bavaria – that was the theme for this year’s process. Also a catalog offer, an itinerary of a prepared product, its calculation and quality of the overall tour presentation were the part of the prepared presentation of each team. Students had for preparation a difficult and extensive task all morning. Two expert juries assessed the level of the product content, further an itinerary processing, a catalog offer and also correctness and completeness of the calculation. Last but not least, the level of the overall presentation of a tour offer and its pleading during the discussion and questions were assessed by point’s allocation. Everything was clear as early as 3 p.m. and there was a long-awaited ceremony of the REGION competition winners and giving valuable prizes. Two teams sent by Private Specialized Secondary School START, ltd. Prague and Secondary School of Business and Services from Ustí nad Labem reached the bronze position with the same number of end points. A team of Specialized Secondary School of Business, Applied Art and Design from Pilsen was second and a team from Integrated Secondary School of Hotel Operations and Services in the composition of Tomáš Žítek, Ivo Kruliš, Monika Nežádalová was the winner of the overall competition. “The guarantee of further tourism development is not finances only, but also people, their talent and creativity, and I am glad that such young people took part in this competition. There is a growing interest in participation in the competition Region among secondary schools and it supports the idea of giving more space to this event”, said Václav Koubík, the regional councillor for culture, preservation of monuments and tourism. “For the second year, we were pleased to support holding of this competition, we prepared prizes and promotional materials for winners, employees of the Department of Tourism met in professional juries to assess the level of a processed product”, added Koubík, the councillor. All participants left for their homes feeling to be successful. Regardless of their position they were able to come over nervousness and present their theoretical knowledge to the public.
